Overview
MoKabb is the ride-hailing application ELK Consulting built for the Mauritian market: a passenger app, a driver app and the back office that runs them. Since going live in November 2025 it has passed 50,000 downloads and now carries a fleet of more than 460 registered drivers across the island.
The problem
Getting a taxi in Mauritius meant calling a number, negotiating a price with no reference point, and waiting without knowing whether anyone was coming. Neither passengers nor drivers had a way to prove what had been agreed.
Objectives
Make booking a ride as simple as sending a message: a price shown before confirming, a driver located in real time, and a payment method everyone already uses — cash.
The solution
Two Flutter applications — one for passengers, one for drivers — on a Laravel back end. The passenger picks a vehicle category (Economy, Comfort, Family or Van), sees the fare before booking, follows the driver on the map and pays in cash on arrival. An SOS button sits on the ride screen, every driver is identified and rated, and rides can be scheduled ahead with multiple stops. Vehicle rental and excursions were added to the same app, along with international call credits earned on every trip.
Results
More than 50,000 downloads of the passenger app, over 460 registered drivers, 4.5 stars from 132 reviews on Google Play — and 4.9 stars for the driver app. Riders report waits of around three minutes, including a group of eight stranded at Flic-en-Flac who had a van within three minutes of booking.
Conclusion
On an island of 1.26 million people, 50,000 downloads is roughly one adult in fifteen. MoKabb has become a daily reflex rather than a fallback.
